Abrasive Flow Machining (AFM), is a mechanical process patented by Extrude Hone as a way to deburr, polish, and radius difficult-to-reach surfaces. Morris Technologies primarily utilizes the technology to polish the internal passages and geometry of additive metal products. Our production capable equipment is able to perform both one-way and two-way operations. MTI has available a wide array of media options, making AFM a great choice when there is a need to improve surface finish or flow rates.
The process uses hydraulic power and tooling to push abrasive media through, or across the surface of a part. This action removes material and leaves a polished, deburred surface. Process parameters, tooling and media can be adjusted to achieve desired results. Once the abrasive media is dissolved and washed away, treated parts are ready for demanding applications in fields such as: Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, Tooling, and Consumer Goods.
