Morris Technologies’ Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) capabilities include 4-axis wire EDM, RAM EDM and 5-axis EDM hole drilling. These machining solutions offer superior precision and accuracy when cutting the materials typically required in aerospace and medical applications. Multiple machines provide capacity and flexibility to meet the demands of production and prototype work.
4-Axis Wire EDM
Wire EDM is typically used to remove a large mass of material in one cut versus conventional rough milling. MTI utilizes WEDM extensively to remove additive manufactured parts from build platforms as well as to establish qualified surfaces on near net shape parts. Recast layers less than .0002” are expected from modern-day equipment utilizing digital generators and can be removed with additional processing if required.
5-Axis EDM Drilling
EDM drilling enables "arrow straight," 0.010” diameter holes through super alloy materials with depths up to 8”. Break-out detection technology allows for effusion holes to meet complex internal geometry such as those found in the latest high pressure turbine blades or surgical instrumentation components.
